Mysuru: Government will take ordinance route on Kambala issue if need arises, said Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while comparing it to a rural sport.
On arrival at Mysuru on a two-day visit, Siddaramiah said the future action by the government will depend on the court verdict on February 6 and preferred not to draw parallels between Kambala and Jallikattu.
Meanwhile speaking on police promotions, the seniority of police officials would be taken into account on the appointment of state Director General of Police (DGP), CM Clarified. The State Governor had sought certain clarifications on the appointment of Vishwanath Shetty as Lokayuktha and necessary clarifications will be given to him in brief, CM stated.
When asked about Janata Dal (Secular) announcing the list of probable candidates during next month, CM retorted against comparing Congress and JDS. When quizzed further about JDS announcing Kalale Krishnamurthy as their candidate for the Nanjangud by-election, CM said the party would take decision on the Congress candidate once the election commission announced poll dates.
CM’s Reaction on IT raids:
When asked about Lakshmi Nimbalkar’s accusation of BJP’s hand in Income Tax raids, CM asked reporters to pose the question to state women congress chief as she had made that statement. Regarding continuation of Minister Ramesh Jarkhiholi in the state cabinet, CM defended the minister by saying, “It is only an I-T raid.”
On accusation of state BJP chief Yeddyurappa that the CM lacked common sense in solving drought problem, Siddaramaiah hit back and said, “It is better for state BJP leaders to attempt and get drought relief amount from the centre, instead of making baseless accusations. The state government had deposited the drought relief amount released last year by the central government into the bank accounts of the affected and people making baseless accusations should use common sense.”
On central minister Sadananda Gowda’s statement on lack of follow-up, the CM said it was more than a month since meeting the prime minister and holding an all party meeting and the wait continued for the drought relief amount from the centre.
Meanwhile, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel too held a meeting with Kambala Committees, film fraternity and Kambala enthusiasts and urged the Tuluvas to take part in the massive protest planned on January 28 to save Kambala. The demonstration will be held in Swaraj Maidan in Moodabidri and over 200 Kambala buffaloes will be paraded on the day to impress upon the Court that Kambala is not a violent sport.
He lauded Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for standing in support of Kambala and also forming a committee during Belagavi session in connection to the sport. “The chief minister has asked Centre to lift the ban on Kambala. Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad will be visiting Mangaluru and we will convince him to take a favourable stand.” he added.
