Mysuru: If everything goes on well then ‘Kabini reservoir or dam’ located in close proximity to the town of Saraguru in HD Kote Taluk, Mysuru district, which irrigates more than one lakh acre is all set to be revamped just like KRS so as to attract more tourists.
The construction of Kabini dam was started in 1959 and wad completed in 1974. The dam provides water to more than 1 lakh acre including 7400 acre in HD Kote taluk, 17,000 acre in Nanjangud Taluk, 30,000 acre in T Narasipur Taluk, all in Mysuru district and in Chamarajanagar district 16,000 acre for Yallandur Taluk, 36,200 acre in Kollegal taluk and 3400 acre in Chamarajangaar taluk.
Speaking to Newskarnataka, the youngest MLA from Karnataka Anil Kumar, son of former MLA Chikkamadhu said, “Already the estimates regarding development of dam including setting of garden on the lines of Brindavan Garden is in approval stage. Apart from this, the bridge in front of the reservoir which submerges whenever water is released from the dam will be raised soon.”
“State government is determined to boost tourism industry in the state. The Karnataka Tourism Policy 2015-20, emphasizes on enhancing hospitality services and standards, promoting innovative developments and rejuvenation of older tourist attractions, with the aim of offering visitors the experience that will commensurate with higher expectations. Various developmental works will be coming up in 50 acre land at overall cost of Rs 50 crore,” he said.
Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Limited (CNNL) intends to develop tourism related infrastructure under an appropriate Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework to boost the tourist footfalls in the kabini dam region. The proposed tourism related infrastructure is envisaged to have various amenities/ components which will attract the tourists of all age groups. This infrastructure would complement Kabini as a destination point for visitors thereby creating a wholesome tourism ecosystem in the region which is lacking at present. For the above purpose CNNL has appointed iDeCK for assisting them in conducting a feasibility study for developing tourism related infrastructure at the downstream of Kabini dam site.
The advantages of proposed garden at the downstream of Kabini dam includes arrival of large number of national and international tourists to the garden area, improvements in local economy with the arrival of large number of tourists, direct and indirect revenues add to the local economy, tourism facilities increases job opportunities to the local people and hence improving their economic status. The project will have tourism related facilities which includes Multi cuisine restaurants with open and covered (Canopy) dine area, Entertainment Centre, Children Play Area , Resorts with Ayurvedic Spa, Salon, indoor sports, etc, Amphitheatre, Landscaped garden/park, Lazy River, Bicycle track, Artificial Water body, Parking facility and House Boat.
