Mysuru: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the second-leg of campaign in Karnataka ahead of May 12 polls and address a mega rally for Chamarajanagar and Mandya assembly constituencies at Santhemaralli, which is part of Chamarajanagar taluk on May 1.
After former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, no prime minister visited the jinxed district in the recent past. After nearly four decades a Prime Minister will be visiting Chamarajanagar. Fearing that the district, especially Chamarajanagar town is unlucky for them, many ministers especially the Chief Ministers avoid visiting the district.
It may be sheer coincidence but both late SR Bommai and Veerendra Patil lost power six months after visiting Chamarajanagar. However, Siddaramaiah dared to visit the district over five times after assuming power.
Before the state goes for voting on May 12, Narendra Modi will take part in 15 rallies in the state from May 1 and surprisingly, public rally at Santemaralli in Chamarajanagar will be the first one. He will then proceed to Udupi and Chikkodi on the same day. On the inaugural rally at Santemaralli, more than 20 MLAs and one lakh supporters are expected to take part in the rally, said Member of Parliament Prathap Simha.
He also mentioned that on May 3, the PM will be having rally at Kalburgi, Ballari and Bengaluru, at Tumkuru, Shivamogga and Gadag on May 5, at Raichur, Chitradurga and Kolar on May 7 and on May 8 he will be having public rally at Bijapur and Mangaluru.
The MP said that the CM had insulted the Kannadigas in Belagavi while addressing a rally. “The CM apologized to the gathering for not being able to talk in Marathi,” he said.
With regard to the Nirav Modi scam, the MP said that a letter of understanding was given during the UPA government.
” Most of the corruption cases have happened during the UPA government and the present government under Narendra Modi is trying to arrest those fraud people. The Congress party has no right to speak about corruption when they themselves have been involved in corruption and looted money not only in state but also during their rule at the centre. Now our Prime Minister Narendra Modi is setting right the system,” he said.
