Mysore: The heritage bungalow of F K Irani, who gave the world its ‘Road King’ may soon be a thing of past. Thanks to some developers who are sketching plans to pull down the residence of maker of Jawa bikes, the place where he lived his last days.

Mysuru has to its credit of giving several firsts to the world and Jawa bikes are simply one among them.

Jawa bikes were every young lad’s dream during 1966-97 and FK Irani was the maker of these bikes.

In 1972-1973 when Mysore Dasara festival was on the verge of being stopped it was Farrokh Irani who took the lead and ensured that the grand festival continued in all of its glory. It was then that the festival which was more associated with the Mysore Royal family became Nadahabba and people’s festival.

F K Irani lived in Mysore Nazarabadh’s bungalow during his last days. But, unfortunately, some builders have planned to demolish the same building overnight.

In 2006 a committee identified 198 buildings as heritage buildings in Mysore. Out of these 90 buildings were under the control of the Government and the rest were owned by private individuals.

F K Irani’s bungalow, which was owned by private individuals, is going to land in pages of history to make away for a plush mall.

As a precautionary measure builders are thinking to demolish the building overnight because they are scared of public rage.

Some of the loyal Jawa employees have said that they would not allow the bungalow to be pulled down at any cost.

One may have to only wait and watch as to how this buildings which carries in it memories of a great man is saved, lest we forget history!
