India comes under one roof at National Jamboree

Mysuru: During the annual Dasara we had an opportunity to see culture and tradition of few states but here during the 17th National Jamboree of Scouts and Guides, people had the rarest of rare opportunity to see all the states’ culture and tradition under one roof at Adakanahalli Industrial Area here on Saturday.

During the pageant, more than 27,000 participants who have come from different states from across the country displayed their colourful culture and tradition, geography, traditional attires and representations of their leaders who contributed for the welfare of their respective states, festival types and history. During the nearly two-hour pageant saw energetic performances from each and every participant.

Participants from the host state Karnataka too excelled. As part of the pageant, they displayed Basavanna, contribution of Mysuru Maharaja, Kittur Rani Chennamma and various other leaders who contributed for the welfare and betterment of the state. Traditional dances including Kolu Kunitha was performed,

Radhakrishnan who had come from Tamil Nadu said, “To watch National Jamboree, I had come from Chennai. The pageant was really outstanding. One can’t see such a conglomeration of various cultures and traditions of all the states under one roof. Really such gathering will bring about unity amid diversity and people have the opportunity to know more about all the states including Jammu and Kashmir, Shimla, Nagaland and Manipur.”

Later after the pageant, the organisers had also arranged for a demonstration fire safety measures by the firefighting experts. The fire fighters called upon the people to not panic during the eventualities and take up various precautionary and remedial measures. The demonstrators also displayed the ways to approach various fire accidents.

Book on former union minister and Scouts and Guides state chief commissioner Kondajji Basappa released:

The organisers, in an effort to appreciate and remember Kondajji Basappa’s contribution towards Scouts and Guides during his record tenure as state chief commissioner from 1964 to 1982, released a book on his life. His two sons Kondajji Shanmukappa and Dr Gurumurthy Kondajji too continued to follow his footsteps by serving Scouts and Guides in various positions. Kondajji Shanmukappa was the state chief commissioner for 21 years while Dr Gurumurthy is presently serving as treasurer for Mysuru district Scouts and Guides. The 64-page biography on Kondajji Basappa is authored by Nagesh K N. The book also contains a good collection of rare photographs. The book was released by Minister for Food and Civil Supplies U T Khader.
