Mysore: About 50 passengers of a city bus had a miraculous escape when a portion of the road on which the bus travelled, caved in as soon as the bus crossed the bridge built across a storm water drain on the Hi-Tension Main Road, near Cauvery Circle in Hebbal last night at around 8 pm.
With the caving in of the portion of the road, the connectivity to residences from CITB Choultry to Cauvery Circle and Sankarnthi Circle has been cut off and the residents are plying on the parallel road which is already congested.
On receiving information about the road collapse, MCC officials including MCC Commissioner Dr. C.G. Betsurmath and engineers rushed to the spot immediately and placed barricades to prevent motorists from entering the road.
The MCC officials, who inspected the spot yesterday, are preparing an estimate for the reconstruction.
MUDA Commissioner S. Palaiah along with Superintending Engineer Shivakumar, Executive Engineer Veerabhadraiah, Assistant Executive Engineer Rajashekar, Corporator Shivanna and others too visited the spot this morning for an inspection.
Meanwhile, the heavy rains that pounded the city, leaving many low lying areas like N.R.Mohalla, Cauverynagar, Beedi Workers Colony, Hanumanthanagar and adjoining areas inundated with rain waters flowing into houses.
