Mysuru: The Janata Dal state president and former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy took on the state DGP and home minister for inhuman police action against protesting farmers in parts of Dharwad district.
Addressing media before boarding a special aircraft enroute to Hubballi, HD Kumaraswamy said, “The police action is not acceptable on any count as they dragged women from their houses and even beat pregnant women and children.” He said that the state DGP is an unfit and a useless officer and the home minister has no regard for humanity. He also criticized Dharwad district in-charge minister on the occasion for defending police action and said that his statements are completely irresponsible.
He challenged the State government to arrest him and said that he was on his way to meet all those innocent families of farmers who faced police brutalities on July 29.
It may be recalled that protests are being held across the State with pro-Kannada and farmers’ organisations, protesting the Mahadayi Water disputes tribunal’s interim order rejecting the state’s petition seeking 7.56 tmcft for drinking water projects in its order dated Wednesday July 27.
