Green, Grey, White, Red and Yellow days to be marked with programmes

Mysuru: The Zilla Panchayat in association with various departments is celebrating world environment day in the month of June by organizing several programmes and the campaign will be unveiled by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at the new women self-help groups’ convention hall at Vijayanagar on Sunday.

Speaking to media persons of Friday,and marking the day by wearing a green saree ZP president Dr Pushpavathi Amarnath said, “ To mark the world environment day,  as a ‘green day’ the ZP with other departments support will be planting 1 lakh saplings in the district. Primarily government offices, schools, Anganawadis, Ashram schools will be taken into consideration”.

?Grey Day will be marked ?on June 15, on which the ZP will not utilise any electronic devices from 7.30 pm to 8 pm. We also request public to mark the day to create awareness about global warming. To mark the white day, people are requested not to use private vehicles and to go to their work place using the public transport system.”

She also said that ZP will be marking red day and yellow day by creating awareness about organics crops and solar energy utilization. On the occasion, ZP will install its solar energy systems in  its offices and three high-tech solar bus stops in Hunsur taluk.

23 departments that come under ZP will be taking up the initiative and each colour based theme will be run for three days as campaign. CEO P A Gopal and many others were present.
