Mysuru: While Mysuru city is striving hard to regain the cleanest city tag, glitches in the telephone network, like the one witnessed last year may dampen the cities hopes.

Last year Mysuru dropped four notches down after occupying the first rank in the Swachhta survey after citizens were unable to give their feedback due to glitches in telephone network.

G Jagadeesha, Commissioner, Mysore City Corporation said, “Last year too Mysuru City faced a similar problem during the Swachata Survekshan(SS) survey. One of the main reasons for the city to slip down to fifth place from No 1 ranking was owing to the technical glitches in the server due to which BSNL mobile users could not connect to the SS toll free number to give their feedback. We had even complained to SS a couple of times regarding the issue. This year too we are facing a similar problem, already we have filed complaint to the SS regarding the BSNL users problem”.

The SS survey is being held across the country from January 4 to March 10. More than 4000 cities will be participating in the race to achieve the clean city tag and will be ranked based on several parameters with different weightages for a total of 4,000 marks, including 1,000 marks for citizen feedback.

The Commissioner called upon the people of Mysuru city to actively participate in the citizen feedback by calling on the toll free number – 1969 (from 10am to 6pm) and give their opinion of the city. The callers would be posed with six questions about city’s cleanliness and would hardly take three minutes. Citizens can also give feedback online by logging into the website – www.swachhsurvekshan2018.org and by using a mobile app ‘Swachhata App’. Those aged 15 years and above are eligible to take part in the citizen feedback campaign.

“Last year the city lost most of the marks in the survey due to lack of citizen feedback, lack of dustbins in markets and commercial places, and community toilets; this year we have rectified our mistakes by coming out with more than required public and community toilets and dustbins in the market” added Jagadeesha.

Negative marking if ground reality differs from submitted docs:

The authorities can’t submit documents according to their whims and fancy as from this year there will be negative marks if the ground reality differs from the documents provided. “This year SS has introduced negative marking, if the documentation submitted by us is incorrect we will get negative marks. For the last three months we went all out in our effort and prepared pakka documents for maximum 2600 marks. Already 27,000 people have downloaded Swachhtha app. Last year 434 cities took part in the SS while this year more than 4000 cities are taking part. When we can provide best facilities to the citizen we need not worry about number of participants. We are confident of coming out with a better show this year” pointed Jagadeesha.

Mayor Ravi Kumar, Health officers Dr Nagaraj, Ramachandra and other officials and corporators were present on the occasion.
