Mysuru: To promote Gajapayana, the arrival of dasara elephants, forest department is coming out with a 15 minute short film based on ‘Elephants and their ecological significance’.
Earlier, the grand dasara celebration started ten days prior to main dasara event but now Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, for the first time decided to start grand dasara celebration with the arrival of dasara elephants from its respective woods itself so that tourism gets a boost in the city. With this, all efforts are being made to make arrival of the Dasara elephants attractive.
Speaking to Newskarnataka V Yedukondalu, Deputy Conservator of Forest (Wildlife division), Mysuru said “The 15 minute movie is broadly based on elephants and their ecological significance, elephant and socio cultural importance including dasara and mahouts and their contribution to man animal conflicts and importance of elephants in ecology and forest. The script and materials for the movie is getting ready and on August 5 it will be launched. The movie will be in Kannada but for the convenience of the tourists we are also planning to come out in English as well”.
“Nearly 20 big hoardings at prominent places including Mysuru-Bengaluru road and Mysuru –Hunsur road will be put up. At an outset the aim of district administration is to attract the tourist to Nagapura Hadi of Hunsur Taluk where the dasara elephants will be welcomed on August 10. For the first time Kannada and Culture department will also be involved in Gajapayana program” added Yedukondalu.
