Chamarajanagar: The alert Chamarajanagar police arrested four persons including a minor who were involved in the theft of Rs 28 lakh from the Chamarajanagar KSRTC depot reported on October 17. With the arrest of four accused, police have recovered cash Rs 18 lakh and the vehicle which was used for the theft.
According to police the accused are Abdul Rehman and Kifayatulla Sharif both aged 23, Lokesh alias Mani, aged 20 years and Abdul Rehman’s younger brother who is a juvenile. Additional Superintendent of Police M Muthuraj said, “To crack the case, four different teams were formed. We investigated the insiders and also those who frequent the depot. During investigation we came to know that accused Abdul Rehaman’s father Abdul Majeed runs a scrap shop which used to collect the waste at KSRTC Mechanical Workshop. Through Majeed, we could lay our hands on Rehman, who later revealed the details of the theft.”
It is said that Rehman during his frequent visits to depot to collect scarp, made note of several details, including that of how the cashier works. He keenly observed the cashier and identified the place where he kept the keys of the cash units. Soon, Rehman discussed the details with his juvenile brother and on October 16, Rehman and his brother formed a gang of four and striked the depot by opening the backdoor. Before executing the crime, the four sprinkled chilli powder to dodge the sniffer dogs, said Muthu Raj. Kuldeep Kumar Jain, Superintendent of Police, Chamarajanagar district appreciated the team involved in cracking the case. He also assured of cash awards for the team.
