Mandya : Several villages in Srirangapatna, Pandavapura, KR Pete taluks are facing fears of floods as much water is released from the KRS reservoir which is full, in the wake of the heavy rains in Kodagu and Cauvery river basin area.




As over 57000 cusecs of water is flowing into the reservoir, presently 65000 cusecs of water is released from the reservoir bringing fears of floods in low lying areas. Already a flood like situation has arisen in Enneholekoppalu, Balamuri, Chikkamandagere, Karimanti, Mahadevapura, Bidirehalli, Bandihole, Doddapalya, Srirangapatna, Somanathapura, Gowthama Kshetra, Bellattur, Sangapur, Ambigarahalli and other villages in Mandya. People living in low lying areas have been directed to be on the alert. The District Administration has also directed officials to be prepared to tackle the flood situation.
Reports say water has gushed into the Saibaba Ashram of Srirangapatna and houses on the banks of Paschima Vahini. The Ranganatittu birds sanctuary is surrounded by water and boating has been suspended. However, tourists are allowed to the bird sanctuary. At the same time it is learnt there has been no damage to birds as there are not many birds in the sanctuary during this time.
