Mysuru: A father ended his life after learning that he had unknowingly got his minor daughter wedded to a married man.

Repenting over the mistake he committed, Govindaraju (43), a resident of Mullur village of H D Kote set himself ablaze at the residence of his son in-law, seeking justice for his daughter, in H D Kote on Monday.
Govindaraju’s happiness knew no limits when he married off his 17-year-old daughter Shambhavi to Nagaraju (25) from HD Kote recently.
A great level of secrecy was maintained by Govindaraju and family about the marriage as the girl was a minor. However, the villagers who knew of the marriage often scorned Govindaraju and family for not having invited them for the wedding.
Even as taunts continued, Govindaraju’s happiness was short-lived.
After six months of marriage, Govindaraju discovered that Nagaraju was already married and that he was neglecting and torturing Shambhavi.
On learning that Nagaraju was teaming up with his first wife to torture and harass Shambhavi, Govindaraju was shattered.
Couple of days ago, when Govindaraju went to his daughter’s house to get her back home for some festival, he realised that Shambhavi was battered and was evidently weak.
Shambhavi later informed Govindaraju that her husband has given her a deadline of just three months to live with him as his younger sister’s wedding was around the corner. She told Govindaraju that once the wedding solemnises, Nagaraju would send her back as he wanted to live with his first wife.
Holding himself responsible for the plight his daughter was living in, Govindaraju like a helpless father went to Nagaraju’s house and pleaded for justice for his child. Right at their residence, he poured kerosene and set himself ablaze.
