Mysuru: As part of the mock exercise which was not known to the emergency railway employees, when the message flashed that six got injured after Yeswanthpur-Mangaluru train got derailed between Sakleshpur and Donigal railway station, the emergency staff especially those belonging to mechanical, medical, security and operations rushed to the spot immediately. Some sections of the media even flashed that there was derailment near Donigal Railway but in reality it was just a mock exercise which was done to check the preparedness and skills of emergency staffs.
On Wednesday afternoon, many passengers were shocked to see the accident like scenario near Donigal railway station but soon relaxed after coming to know it was a mock drill.
A crane to lift the compartment was rushed from Arsikere, all the emergency employees displayed timely skills in rescue operation which impressed Atul Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru division, SWR to announce cash award to the entire team who were involved in the mock exercise. Under the leadership of DRM Atul Gupta, the exercise was planned and organised by Safety Branch of Mysuru division.
The rescue personnel immediately brought out stretchers, forced open some windows and shifted the injured to the first aid centres and waiting ambulances. The rescue team with the help of latest equipment managed to break the window grill of the bogie and got inside to rescue the trapped and injured passengers.
More than 100 employees belonging to different departments took part in the mock exercise.
