Mysuru: An elderly woman’s greed cost her dear as she lost 45 gms of gold to a con woman, here in Mysuru. In lieu of this, she received 160 gms of fake gold!

The victim, Kanakagiri Devamma (65).

It is said that Devamma had summoned her granddaughter to K R Hospital for some work. While Devamma was waiting at the bus stop, a lady came over to her and started narrating about her difficulties.

The stranger lady told Devamma that her younger sister was expecting a child outside marriage and hence she needed money to get the pregnancy terminated.

When Devamma seemed conviced, the lady kept her engaged and offer to give her 160 gms gold in lieu of 45 gms of gold that Devamma was possessing.

At the meantime, a man who came to picture tried to convince Devamma stating that 160 gms of gold was real gold.

Falling prey to the offer, Devamma handed over her pure gold ornaments- gold chain weighing 30 gms, studs of 8 gms and ear chain of 5 gms to the stranger lady and remained elated over getting 160 gms of gold.

The lady, after handing over 160 gms of ‘gold’ had told Devamma to wait for her at the bus stop. When the lady did not turn up even after several hours, Devamma called upon the onlookers only to realise that she was conned.

The onlookers who took the ‘gold in Devamma’s possession declared it was fake.

Devaraj Police have registered a case.
