Mysore: ‘Elaa Bharatham’ a book by Dr. Dharani Devi Malagatti was released today by Prof. S. L. Bhyrappa, at a book release function organized by the the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat, Mysore.
Releasing the book, Professor S L Bhyrappa said that he developed an interest in literature during his school days, where he got opportunities to be taught by teachers who had immense knowledge of the Kumaravyasa Bharata, Ramayana, and the Bhagavad Gita. He recalled his teachers, Veerabhadrayya and Bharathi, who he said, have had a tremendous impact on his life.
“Now days teachers don’t know to teach itself, so students are not interested in language subjects which are very important to their life”, he said. I feel Valmiki has done great job of writing the Ramayana, and he has left nothing to add, so i don’t want to write it again”, he added.
Speaking on ‘Elaa Bharatham’ by Dr. Dharani Devi Malagatti, he said, “she has worked a lot on this book for 10 years and proved herself as a future writer of India. I wish for her to write more”.
Prof. Malathi Pattanashetty, N S Taranath and other scholars were present for the book release function.

Dr. D. D. Malagatti holds a Bachelors degree in Business Management, Post Graduate degree in Commerce, an additional PG Degree in Kannada Literature, and Research in Management Science. A proficient and creative writer and a critique in Kannada, Dr. Malagatti has made huge contributions towards poetry, fiction, criticism and translation in Kannada.
As a progressive writer , she concentrates mainly on women’s writings and Dalit literature. She has published notable books such as, ‘Bread Jam’ (1995) – a collection of poems in Kannada, which won the admiration of critics, ‘Tulunadu Siri’ (1995) – a book written for adult education, and ‘Bharateeyathe Mattu Strivada (1998) – a noted work in Kannada related to Indian feminism, which has bagged four state level awards: Goruru Prathistana – best vaicharik book of 1998, Kannada Sahithya Parishath – Neela Ganga Endowment Prize-1998, Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha Bangalore-Geetha Desai Endowment prize-1998, and S.R.Patil Foundation Gulbarga-Manikbai Patil Award.
