Mysore: An eight-year-old was sexually assaulted by a person at Vidyanranyapuram in Mysore. The incident came to limelight on Tuesday.

Gopinath (40), a resident of Vidyaranyapuram in the city and a goldsmith by profession has been identified as the accused – Apparently he lured the girl with chocolates and took her to his sisters house and raped her. He did this repeatedly by offering her money. A relative of the victim enquired from the girl after seeing her at the house and enquired from her the circumstances which were then informed to her parents, who lodged a case at the police station.

A case has been booked under IPC section 376 and various sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Medical examination of the victim has also been conducted to confirm the assault. Police are continuing with their investigation.
