Dowry demand: Three months pregnant woman set on fire

K R Nagar: In a tragic incident a three months pregnant woman was set on fire allegedly by her husband and family for not bringing more dowry in Arjunahalli village.

Preethi(23) is the victim who was killed by her husband Mohankumar, mother in law Nagarathnamma and brother in law Jnanesh. Mohan Kumar is the owner of Khadi shop in V V Road.

Preethi daughter of Chandrappa and Savithramma a resident Mutthur village in Piriyapattana taluk was given in marriage to Mohan Kumar last year.

On the occasion of wedding, girl’s family had given 5 lakh cash and 500 gram gold and silver as dowry. But the boy’s family was harassing her for more dowry.

Recently a meeting was held in panchayath with both the families to solve the issue. Even after that the boy’s family repeatedly abused and harrased her demanding more dowry.

On Wednesday the boy’s family allegedly doused Preethi with kerosene and set her on fire. She died with severe burns. The girl’s relatives filed a dowry harassment complaint against Mohan Kumar and family who are accused of killing her.

K R Nagar police circle inspector H N Siddayya, assistant inspector Shanmugam investigated and arrested victim’s husband, mother in law and brother in law.
