Mysuru: Mysuru division, South Western Railway conducted the 27th Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting to discuss issues relating to further improvement in the quality of service available to rail users.
Atul Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, Mysuru Division & Chairman of DRUCC through a power point presentation highlighted the various initiatives undertaken by the division recently to augment/upgrade amenities available at stations and on trains. He also laid out the action plan for elimination of manned and unmanned level crossing gates in the territorial jurisdiction of Mysuru Division stating that over 240 level crossing gates have been eliminated in the last four years which had contributed significantly in safe operation of trains and for achieving higher productivity. He also listed several infrastructural works completed on the main line to improve efficiency in operations. Sectional speeds have also been increased for improved speed and punctuality, he added.
He also mentioned that the safety record of the division in the last two years was near zero with just a solitary incident involving a non-passenger carrying train. He also added that renewed focus will be on further improving the cleanliness standards in railway station premises and on trains. “The innovative cell of the division constituted for in-house development of Apps to achieve greater efficiency in delivery of quality services is playing a very pivotal role”, he said and lauded the efforts of all those involved in it.
The members of the Committee spoke of the need for provision of additional amenities such as drinking water facility, better quality approach road, extension of platform shelters, additional seating arrangements, better mechanism for ensuring safety of passengers’ belongings in overnight trains, better food, additional stoppage for trains and introduction of new trains. Gupta assured that every effort will be made to provide basic amenities as per the extant guidelines communicated by the Ministry of Railways (Railway Board), subject to availability of funds and other overriding priorities.
