Mysuru: A city court has directed a Police Head Constable to pay Rs.1.03 lakh as compensation to a retired DySP, who is also the Secretary of Karnataka Police Housing Co-operative Society, Mysuru, who had filed a defamation suit against the cop.

The City’s Fifth Additional Civil Court in an order passed on Dec.20, 2014 has directed Head Constable Guruswamy to pay Rs.1.03 lakh compensation to retired DySP Nanjundegowda.

Guruswamy’s nomination to contest the Karnataka Police Housing Co-op. Society elections in 2005 was rejected, following which he petitioned the Asst. Registrar of Co-operative Societies, who after hearing the case, rejected his appeal.

Later, Guruswamy held a press meet, during which he levelled serious charges of irregularities against Nanjundegowda.

Taking exception to this, Nanjundegowda filed a libel suit in the civil court, which after hearing the case, directed Guruswamy to pay compensation.
