Mysuru: Members of the IIT site committee met at the DC’s office on Thursday and witnessed a presentation on the advantages of establishing the Institute in Mysuru. DC, C Shikha, made a strong pitch in favour of Mysuru before the selection committee.
During the meeting the DC explained the advantages of establishing the IIT in the selected area. She said that Mysuru is already having many educational and research Institutes. Being the second largest city, in Karnataka, Mysuru is developing in all aspects, and is only 139 kms away from Bengaluru. Also she said that the site proposed for the IIT is 6 kms from the airport, 2 kms from NH212 and 17 kms from Mysuru city. Mysuru City Railway Station is nearby and the Kabini river flows close to the area. She added
R Subramanian, Additional Secretary Technical Education, MHRD, New Delhi, Sudhir L Jain, Director, IIT Gandhi Nagar, Ravi Kant Soni, Chief Engineer CPWD, Bengaluru and Bharat Lal Meena, Principal Secretary , Higher Education were present at the meeting.
The team along with the Pratap Simha MP Mysuru, R Dhruvanarayan, Chamarajanagar MP and C Shikha DC inspected the sites. The land identified is near Thandavapura and is in the possession of the KIADB.
