Mysuru: Following police crackdown against the celebration of Mahisha Dasara, progressive organisations of Mysuru have decided to boycott the Mysuru Dasara, which will start on September 29.
Speaking to the reporters, former Mayor Purushottam, who was one of the organisers of the Mahisha Dasara, said that there is no question of allowing the celebrations of Mysuru Dasara.
“You stopped our (Mahisha) Dasara. So, we will not allow you to celebrate your Dasara. We will hold protests at the time of VVIP arrivals,” he said.
This decision comes amidst reports of Mysuru MP Pratap Simha’s outburst against the police and the district administration for allowing Mahisha Dasara celebrations atop Chamundi hills. Under the MP’s pressure, police didn’t allow the celebration of Mahisha Dasara.
Mahisha Dasara is a parallel Dasara celebration started by progressive thinkers, who claim that the mythological character Mahishasura (killed by Goddess Shakthi) was a benevolent king.
