Mysuru: After the deadly novel coronavirus (covid-19) scare hugely impacted the meat industry, it has now struck the vegetable market as well.

According to reports, the vegetable market has observed a drastic drop of 70 percent in terms of price, due to which the farmers are facing a nail-biting situation.

Reports suggest that vegetable rates (per kg) have seen a constant drop over the past week.

Tomatoes have come down to Rs 5 per kg. Similarly, vegetables like onions and ladies finger are Rs 10 and 14 per kg, respectively.

In the wake of the vegetable market taking a drastic dip, the farmers, Agricultural Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), middlemen and other agencies have decided to call for a meeting on Tuesday, March 10, under the leadership of APMC president K Prabhuswamy.
