Mysuru: A course on “Energy, Sustainability and Life Cycle Risk Analysis” was inaugurated at Sri Jayachamarajendra College (SJCE) recently.
The course has been organised by the Department of Electronics & Communication as a part of “Global Initiative of Academic Networks”, a programme initiated by Ministry of Human Resource and Development where an expert of Indian origin from abroad delivers lectures to students by staying in an Indian college or university. Students from any part of India can register for the course.
Speaking after inaugurating the course Dr. B G Sangameshwara, Vice-Chancellor of JSS Science & Technology University spoke about the policy initiatives taken by JSS Mahavidyapeetha in the area of renewable energy and sustainability and requested resource person Arun Kumar from the University of San Diego, California, US, to also discuss about the economic aspects of renewable energy production and distribution.
Responding to Vice-Chancellor’s concern, Arun Kumar elaborated on the need for sustainable and renewable energy and various efforts in India and across the world on this issue. As an example, he highlighted that Karnataka was a leader in bio fuels and KSRTC had adopted to bio fuel in a big way compared to other states in India. As an alumnus of SJCE, he also recalled his warm relation with the institution and its faculty members.
Principal of SJCE Dr. T N Nagabhushan emphasised that same ecosystem as in any international university is being provided at the college with the help of MHRD’s GIAN programme and asked the students to derive maximum benefit through such programmes. Students should be able to produce new ideas and innovation after going through the course, he said.
