Once the fully equipped ESI hospitals become a reality, the referral to super specialty hospitals will come down and ESI beneficiaries will be getting the best treatment at the subscribed hospital itself. Though the registered beneficiaries are nearly 1.2 lakh the service is availed by around 5 lakh people. The hospital which comes under Mysuru region comprises six districts including Chamarajangar, Hassan, Mandya, Kodagu and Chikkamagaluru. The construction of 100-bedded upgraded ESI hospital was started couple of years ago and completed few days ago. The formalities of handing over the hospital to the state government by the central government will be undertaken in few weeks’ time. The upgraded hospital will be well-equipped with almost all facilities including three sophisticated operation theatres.
The existing ESI hospital is not well equipped to deal with major operation. If there were any serious cases including those related to cardio, kidney and so on, they were referred to private super specialty hospitals in city. Everyday due to lack of modern facilities at the existing hospital, an average of 30 patients is referred to private hospitals. Once upgraded, such cases will be dealt here and revenue of the government will be saved. The hospital is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 34 Crore. The insured persons and their family members get all medical facilities free of cost at ESI hospitals. Everyday more than 10 to 15 patients get dialysis done, free of cost. Apart from this there are beneficiaries who are getting free injection worth Rs 17,000 for chronic arthritic problem. Santosh Lad, Minister for Labour, who is planning a lot of developments, too has assured that once the hospital is handed over to state, the inauguration will be done at the earliest.
Dr Ramesh Jevoor, Medical Superintendent, ESI Hospital, said, “The upgradation work is completed and in couple of weeks’ time, ESI Corporation will be handing over the hospital to State Government ESI Scheme. Once it becomes operational, the expenditure to the government will also come down and the people who are insured under ESI will be benefited more.”
Feedback books at every ward:
To provide good treatment to the patients and get feedbacks from them, Ramesh Jevoor has kept feedback or complaint book at each ward including at OPD. The complaints and feedback will be taken up everyday and addressed in front of the complainants, doctors and other related staff.
