Mysuru: Police station in Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s Varuna constituency doesn’t have Station House Officer. Both the sanctioned Sub Inspector posts for Varuna Police station are vacant since the past four months. The home department has sanctioned additional police stations in the Mysuru district. District minister H C Mahadevappa launched work to build the structure at Biligere in Nanjangud and Megalapura in Varuna on Sunday. However, Varuna Police Station, which comes under Varuna Constituency represented by the CM, doesn’t have Station House Officer. The Mysuru South Police Sub Inspector is handling additional charge.

The sanctioned posts for Varuna Police stations are two sub inspectors, four assistant sub inspectors, 12 head constables and 25 constables. Apart from vacancy of both the sub inspector posts, the station is also short of seven constables. Varuna Police station has 48 villages under its jurisdiction.

The situation is not confined to Varuna alone. The story is the same in several other police stations across the district and also in many districts across the state. But, while Mysuru expected a better attention from the state government since it is CM’s home turf, the expectations of the Mysureans have been destroyed.

Varuna Hobli gained prominence after Siddaramaiah became chief minister and the new station was carved out of Mysuru South Station. After demand from the villagers, the then superintendent of police Abhinav Khare upgraded Megalapura Police out post which is on Mysuru-Tarasipur road to full-fledged Varuna Police station in June last year.

Speaking to Newskarnataka Vipul Kumar, Inspector General of Police said “The vacancy for Sub Inspector posts is not only in Mysuru district but also in other districts as well. With regard to the vacant sub-inspector post in Varuna Police station I need to check with Superintendent of Police. Few days ago recruitment was undertaken and we are supposed to get nearly 600 sub-inspectors who will be joining KSP. By next year things will be better”.
