Mysore : A Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) constable Naresh Kumar, 30, deployed at the Rare Materials Plant (RMP), a unit of the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, in Mysore allegedly shot himself in the head with a 9mm pistol around 4.30am Friday. He died on the spot, police said.

According to Bilikere police, Naresh, from Haryana, was working in the security wing at the high-security RMP near Yelwala for the past few years. He committed suicide after speaking on his cellphone for a few minutes outside the premises. A police officer confirmed that Naresh was sitting in the back seat of an open jeep when he shot himself even as three of his colleagues, including a senior officer, were in the vehicle, sources said.

CISF personnel work in shifts and Nareshs shift was about to commence at 5am. He came to the RMP from the barracks around 4.30am and collected a 9mm pistol and 30 rounds of bullets before commencing work.

SP Abhinav Khare said Naresh spoke to a family member on his cellphone for about 10 minutes before the suicide. CCTV footage shows Naresh was busy talking on the phone. Naresh is survived by his wife and two children.
