Chamarajanagar: Many parents, litterateurs and academicians complain against parents sending children to private schools instead of fully equipped government schools. All those critics will sit back without uttering a word in case they visit a government school in Hanur of Kollegal taluk.
The apathy of district administration, education department is there for all to see as children gape at crumbling roof of their school instead of paying attention to the teacher or the blackboard in front. Around 173 students studying in Grades 1 to 8 live in constant fear with their future looking uncertain within the classroom itself. Crumbling roof, shattered doors and windows, unworthy toilets paint a grim picture of Mangala Government School in Hanur region of Kollegal taluk.

Umpteen pleas by the school authorities seeking remedy to improve crumbling infrastructure has fallen on deaf years. The elected representatives knowingly evade the school route when they harp on development.

Teachers run out of ideas when they take up lessons on Swatch Bharath Abhiyan (SBA), rural development, Open Defecation Free (ODF) villages as they have lot to learn and little to teach.

The class room environment provides substantial material to teach on subjects like confidence building and life skills because learning against odds is a lesson by itself for the innocent rural children dreaming of a better tomorrow!
