Mysuru: Bikers went on a chain snatching spree in the city on the morning hours of September 10 catching city police off guard. Chain snatchers seized the opportunity when the police were resting for a while longer after their hectic duty due to Karnataka bandh on September 9.
The city which noticed multiple incidents of chain snatching over the last few months remained incident free for a month when the police bundobast was tightened. However, for the bike riders, the bandh call gave a free hand to carry out their operations as they knew that the tired police will be slow to react after their hectic duty on the bandh day. Even before the police could rise in the morning, three incidents of chain snatching were reported in the city.
In the first incident, Siddamma (50) was robbed of her gold chain weighing 30 grams near Datagalli Mahamane circle. The chain snatchers used the pretext of finding address to snatch her chain. Kuvempunagar police registered a complaint and are on the lookout for culprits.
In the second incident, Mohan Kumari of Sharadadevi Nagar lost her chain weighing 54 grams when she was busy drawing Rangoli in front of her house in the early morning hours. Saraswathipuram police registered a case and are investigating.
In the third incident, chain snatchers robbed Chaitanya, a shop owner. She lost her chain weighing 20 grams when the culprits walked into her shop as buyers and managed to escape after snatching her chain. VV Puram police registered a complaint and further investigations are in progress.
