Mysuru: The practice of designing a logo for the Mysuru Dasara each year may soon be discontinued with the government now mulling over designing a permanent logo for the same representing the ruling of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar, said district minister HC Mahadevappa.

Mahadevappa on Tuesday set the ball rolling for Dasara celebrations by holding a preliminary meeting with the senior officials and assigning them with responsibilities. Dasara is being celebrated for the last four centuries in Mysuru, the government is now moving to brand it and has asked the officials to design a permanent logo to brand the festivities rather than changing it each year.

On Tuesday, during the meeting with district officials headed by Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, when the authorities asked the minister how to go about Dasara logo this year, minister Mahadevappa who was irked with frequent changing of logo directed Deputy Commissioner Randeep to come out with a permanent standard logo for Dasara representing the ruling of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. The decision was welcomed by most of the officials including the media persons.

“The permanent logo will help in branding Dasara instead of frequently changing the logo and wasting time focusing on logo” added Mahadevappa. For the forthcoming Dasara he called upon the district authorities including corporation, MUDA and PWD authorities to complete the work well before Dasara events.

DC D Randeep, who is promoting tourism in the city, is focusing on Dasara festivities after the success of the International Yoga day celebrations. Earlier, he has implemented several tourist-friendly moves like change in the illumination timings of Mysuru Palace; opening additional ticket counters at three other gates to the palace and hosting year end tourist festival.

This time too in a bid to attract more tourists and promote tourism in Mysuru, he has requested the minister to start grand Dasara from Gajapayana i.e arrival of Dasara elephants itself. Apart from this, he also suggested participation of cultural troupes from five different states and also from a foreign country to make the event more attractive. He also requested tourism department to take up the responsibility to promote Dasara by advertising in state, national and international.

HP Janardan, Deputy Director of Tourism who also spoke on the occasion requested minister to start online booking of gold cards well in advance so that the foreigners can plan their trips and take part in Dasara celebration.

Couple of national level competition:

As part of Dasara sports competition, Mahadevappa decided to conduct few national level competitions to make it attractive, competitve. He instructed Randeep and K Suresh, Assistant Director , Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports to work out which sports event need to be taken up for national event. It can be brought to light that last year though initially the sports committee had decided to conduct few all-India competitions, the plan was cancelled due to severe drought across the state.

Decision about all the said proposals will be taken up during high power committee meeting which is headed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The meeting will be held in July second or third week. The forthcoming coming Dasara will start on September 21 and conclude on September 30. The arrival of Dasara elephants are expected from August 10.
