Mysuru: Oval grounds, the University of Mysore’s athletic grounds, will soon have a new look as the University administration has decided to renovate it at a cost of Rs. 1.25 crore.

As part of its centenary celebrations scheduled to begin later this year, the University of Mysore has taken up upgrading the grounds.
The improved facilities will not only benefit athletes and sports enthusiasts, but also fitness enthusiasts, who flock to the grounds for walking and jogging, it is said.

After Mysuru University Vice-Chancellor K.S. Rangappa launched work on Wednesday, executive engineer of the university Kishore Chandra said a new walking track will be laid along the 653-metre-long periphery.

The cinder track used by athletes will be re-laid. Chain-link fencing will come up along the cinder track to restrict its access to athletes, he said.

In view of the water-logging problem on the grounds, Mr. Chandra said a concrete drain would be built to drain out water on the lines of the mechanism in use at Chamundi Vihar Stadium. A borewell will be drilled and the lawn will be watered with sprinkler system, he added.
