Mysuru: Around 100 farmers staged a protest in front of the DC office on Friday morning November 7, under the banner of Mysore-Chamarajanagar Cane Growers Association urging to fulfill their demands.
It is learnt that it has been 3 months since the Bannari Amman Sugars in Nanjangud taluk began crushing the operation wherein the government is yet to stipulate the cane price for this season.

The protestors agitated that the the Bannari Amman Sugars had failed in issuing timely harvesting orders to sugarcane growers, which has resulted in dipping of sugar yield causing loss to the farmers. Several representations to the factory administration in this regard have failed to yield results,’ the protestors claimed.

They urged the government to stipulate Rs. 2,800 per tonne for sugarcane, extend the crop loan time-frame for sugarcane farmers to 18 months, introduction of laws on the Kerala model in order to put an end to wild pig menace and immediate setting up of purchase centres for Jowar and Paddy to save the farmers from declining prices for their produce, among other things.

Association President Kurubur Shantakumar, office-bearers Attahalli Devaraj, Kiragasur Shankar, P.Somasekhar, Bhagyaraj and others led the protest.
