Mysuru: State BJP President B S Yeddyurappa appears to be in a fix over the proposed bandh call given by pro-Kannada organisations to support the North Karnataka farmers over Mahadayi issue on January 25, a day which coincides with the BJP sponsored Parivartan Rally in the city.

Shifting the blame on the state chief minister for not doing anything to resolve the issue, BSY hinted at the party not supporting the bandh in southern region of the state.

BSY accused the state government of not convincing their Goa counterparts, who are opposing the implementation of Kalasa-Bhanduri project there and said Congress party wants the dispute to prolong. Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi during their visit to Goa to take part in New Year Eve celebrations remained mum, without uttering a word on the dispute, BSY alleged.

The state chief minister is posing obstacles to avoid a possible solution and even resorting to closure of schools and colleges to foment trouble, BSY said and added that the proposed Parivartan rally in the city would go as planned. He hinted at not supporting the bandh call as Mysuru region is unaffected by the dispute.

The statewide bandh called by a group of Kannada organisations and farmers’ groups has now been rescheduled to January 25. The outfits had earlier called for a bandh on January 27.

Kannada Okkoota, a federation of Kannada organisations has also decided to organise a huge protest in Bengaluru on February 4 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be in the city, seeking his intervention in resolving the Mahadayi row.

However, they have expressed their readiness to withdraw the call for bandh and protest if Modi intervened by then.
