Mandya: When the whole world was celebrating New Year, as many as nine people lost their lives in separate incidents in Mandya.
Journalist Akmal Pasha (44) was killed after a driver lost control of the car he was travelling in with his friends from a New Year party for dinner to a hotel in Maddur. His friends Lokesha, Harisha and Abhinandan suffered injuries.
In another incident, Bengaluru Banashankari resident Prashanth Kumar was killed after his car rammed into a tree near Shimsha bridge on Bengaluru-Mysuru Highway at Maddur. Kumar was returning from a New Year party along with his friends Shashank and Nataraju who were injured in the mishap.
Gram Panchayath member Sheshegowda (59) and Shridhar (50) died after their bike rammed into a car on Mysuru-Bengaluru Highway in Srirangapatna.
A BE student Chetan (20) from Bahubali Engineering College in Shravanabelagola died after his bike skidded near Hosahalli here while returning from New Year party at 3 am.
A JD (S) worker Harisha (32) was murdered in Murukanahalli on the New Year day.
In another incident, a man killed his friend in an inebriated state and hanged self thereafter. Mahesha (38) and Rajesh (40) are the deceased.
Father of late Ramesh, driver of KAS officer Bhima Nayak who was arrested on corruption charges also ended his life on New Year day in Maddur taluk.
