Birthday party turns tragic as youth drowns in river

Mysuru: A birthday party turned tragic for a 24-year-old as he drowned in the backwaters of KRS in Mysuru. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Ilavala Police Station.

The deceased is Madhu, a resident of Mahadeshwara Layout in Kumbarakoppalu here. He was a daily wage worker employed at the Indian currency printing unit in RBI.

November 2 being his birthday, he had travelled to the backwaters of KRS at old Undalawadi with eight friends the next evening to celebrate. At around 4pm, he decided to get into the water in an inebriated state. Unable to swim, he breathed his last, it is reported.

The police retrieved his body today morning, after a massive search since last night. His body was later taken to KR Hospital, Mysuru for autopsy. A police complaint has been registered by his father Manjappa.
