Mysuru: Women in the pretext of seeking drop used to help their associate gang members in carrying out highway robbery were nabbed by city police on Monday, August 22. One Bangladeshi national and a few other residents from Delhi and West Bengal were among those arrested by the city police.
The gang was plotting for a major robbery along the Ring Road highway at Unnati Nagar on the outskirts of the city when they were nabbed by Narasimharaja police based on a tipoff by the locals. The arrested are Nizamuddin Shabir Khan, Sikandar(50), Khaluka (20), Paki (23), Julie Roubel (26), Dilwar Khan(35) and Mohammad Illias(47), all residents of Delhi and West Bengal in addition to one Bangladeshi national.
Modus operandi
Julie and Paki, the two women from the gang used to seek drop from car owners, whereas their associates used to hide in nearby locations. They landed in the city 15 days back and even constructed sheds to reside on the outskirts. They were planning a robbery on August 20 when they were trapped by Narasimharaja police based on the information given by the locals. The police seized knives, wooden rods, ropes, spice powders, 5 mobile sim cards, one passport and one debit card from the arrested gang members.
Among the arrested, the Bangladeshi national is said to have infiltrated into West Bengal illegally and had 4 Bangladeshi sim cards with him. He used the same sim cards to carry out highway robbery. He had in his possession one passport, four other sim cards and two debit cards, all stolen from others. The address given by the arrested gang members were found to be false according to the city police. They have sought intelligence bureau’s help to trace their real origin.
City police commissioner B Dayanand who disclosed the details in a press conference said that all the arrested gang members were remanded to judicial custody and will be taken back to police custody if need arises.
