Mysuru: Balarama, the palace elephant, the cynosure of eyes during Dasara, was in the limlelight once again, when he drove away a wild elephant which had entered Baslapura village in Mysuru on Tuesday.
The wild elephant, which had strayed into the village, remained inside a cornfield of the village till evening without hurting the crops. The forest department reached the spot along with other trained elephants and Balarama which led the herd.

As soon as the wild elephant saw Balarama and other elephants, it came out of the field charging at them and set the stage for a fight.
Under the guidance of the mahout, Balarama managed to overpower the wild elephant and vanquished it by pushing it down to the ground. Later, the wild elephant was escorted by the rescue team to a nearby forest.
