Mysuru: People of Mysuru will not have to stand in long queues for railway tickets, come December, as five of the 23 sanctioned automatic ticket vending machines (ATVMs) sanctioned for the Mysuru City Railway Station will be a reality by the end of this year.
The smart card-based ATVMs will also be installed at stations in Davangere, Shivamogga, Arsikere, Hassan, Birur, Harihar, Haveri and Bhadravathi.
This was disclosed at the Divisional Railway Users’ Consultative Committee meeting here on Wednesday. Divisional Railway Manager Rajkumar Lal said that in addition to the ATVMs, computerized passenger reservation centers will be commissioned at post offices in Mysuru, Virajpet and Madhugiri to improve the dispensation of tickets in the reserved segment.
This is part of the Indian Railways’ thrust on information technology-based solutions to enhance passenger amenities and the overall plan of expanding use of ATVMs across the country.
