Asiatic lion dies at Mysuru Zoo

Mysuru: Visitors to Mysore zoo are usually excited when they pass through enclosures of leopards, tigers and lions which are adjacent to each other. In future they would miss the king of the Jungle ‘Shankar’ a male Asiatic lion which died on May 9.
The Asiatic lion was brought from Gujarat in 2011 under animal exchange program and was one of the main crowd puller for the last five years.

Shankar was kept in separate enclosure for treatment during last 10 days. Though it showed some signs of recovery it eventually died due to Kidney and liver failure according to veterinary doctors who treated it.

With Shankar’s death the zoo is left with three of its companions Gauri, Darhshan and Rakshith.
