Mysuru: “Ashadhatil Ek Diwas” a Marathi translation of Mohan Rakesh’s celebrated Hindi play ” Ashadh Ka Ek Din ” directed by Atul Pethe, was staged  as a part of the Ranga Utsava. The play is about Kalidas, the poet extraordinary and his lover Mallika.

The play was performed by Team Shri Siddhivinayak from Pune, which is a professional theatre organization founded by Mr Shekhar Lohakare. “Ashadhatil Ek Diwas” has got huge success and already done 70 shows. It has been widely appreciated in Nehru Centre Theatre Festival and in B V Karanth Rangamana Theatre Festival Dharwad.

Though written in the year 1958, I believe the play “Ashadhatil Ek Diwas” remains contemporary today. The questions posed in the play are still relevant. It goes on to prove that the classics are never tied to any region, language or even period. Such literature transcends all such boundaries and poses the fundamental issues faced by the mankind. this play is no exception. The three acts of the play are akin to a leisurely musical composition in slow tempo, a vilambit Khyal. Delicately weaved, the structure of the play is immaculate. The language is lyrical.
