Another debt-ridden farmer committed suicide

Nanjangud: Another debt-ridden farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticides, in the region; just a day after a farmer from Pandavapura ended his life.

The deceased has been identified as Shivalingegowda (50), a resident of Siddegowdanahundi village in Hullahalli hobli of Nanjangud taluk in CMs home district of Mysuru.

In a complaint filed with Police, Shivalingegowda’s wife Shivamma said that her husband took the extreme step after he failed to repay Rs. 2 lakh. Accordingly Shivalingegowda, who had grown Cotton on his three-acre plot of land in the village, returned to his land on June 27 morning and consumed pesticides meant to be sprayed on the cotton crop.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.

SP Abhinav Khare, Nanjangud ASP Prakash Nikkam, Circle Inspector M.C. Ravikumar, Hullahalli ASI Suresh and staff, who rushed to the village on information, conducted the formalities. Later, Tahsildar Ramappa, visited the family of the deceased, assured to provide relief to the family.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner C Shikha, who visited the village along with Assistant Commissioner Syeda Aiisha, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture Kumaraswamy and other officials, offered to extend all support to the family of the deceased.

Likewise MLA GT Devegowda, also visited the family of Shivalingegowda, he consoled the family members and offered a financial assistance of Rs. 25,000.
