Mysore: The Anganawady workers held a protest rally and picketed the office of Deputy Commissioner here on Wednesday July 10, opposing the state move to allow voluntary organizations to manage integral child welfare project.
Addressing the protesters, Karnataka state Ananganawady workers Association secretary H S Sunanda said that integral child welfare project that is enhancing human resources development is not justified in handing over to voluntary organizations. Its unscientific to let women self-help-groups to prepare food for children at Anganawady.The services of Anganawady workers are not regularized and are paid bare minimum, said Sunanda.
Sunanda further said that Anganawady workers who are striving to improve the health of children are unjustified with the new proposal. The greater percentages of children in India are suffering from malnutrition and pneumonia. The state government seems insensitive to the needs of Anganawady workers who are caring for children, added Sunanda.
Sunanda urged the state authorities to reduce the age limit of Anganawady workers to 35 years and minimum qualification of SSLC.

The Association president Kaveramma, treasurer Shakuntala, Piriyapattana division president Rajamani, K R Nagar division president Rajeshwari, Hasina Banu including over 500 workers were present at the occasion.
