All irrigation works to be completed in 5 years: CM

Mysore :The Chief Minister addressing the press after offering Bagina, to the river Cauvery at the KRS resovoir, said that the Government plans to complete all pending works on irrigation projects in the State in the next five years besides completing pending works on development of canals.  He said that Rs. 1,800 Crore had been earmarked for developing canals in the Cauvery basin and added that Rs. 10,000 crore had been sanctioned for development of old canals.

Stating that out of Rs. 11,300 Crore earmarked for irrigation in the Budget, Rs. 10,000 crore will be spent on major irrigation projects while Rs. 1,300 crore will be spent on minor irrigation projects, he added that a total of Rs. 50,000 crore would be spent to implement various irrigation projects in the State in the coming five years.

 the CM said that the Government intended to spend Rs. 715 Crore to develop seven canals in the Cauvery basin to help micro farming and added that efforts would be made to provide maximum funds for the same.

He also said that Karnataka, is the  first State in the country to provide an additional support of Rs. 150 per metric tonne of Sugarcane and added  that the Government was mulling at the idea of providing subsidies to farmers growing Jowar, Ragi and Wheat.

Siddharamaiah also said that successful implementation of Anna Bhagya under which those living Below the Poverty Line (BPL) were being given rice at Re. 1 per kg had silenced his critics and added that BPL card holders would be given Wheat, Ragi and Jowar along with subsidized rice in future.
