Mysuru: The Indian Air Force (IAF) is working with the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to phase out Kiran (trainer jet) which is being used for training pilots, informed Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha, Chief of Indian Air Force Staff on Friday November 28.
He was speaking after inaugurating the Computerized Pilot Selection System (CPSS) developed jointly by the DRDO and IAF at the No. 2 Air Force Selection Board (AFSB) located at Siddarthanagar in city.
The IAF Chief landed at Mandakalli airport by a special IAF jet at 11 am and then proceeded to the No. 2 AFSB. He was accompanied by Air Officer Commanding and No. 2 AFSB President Air Commodore O.P. Tiwari.
Answering a query from media with regard to the induction of Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT), Raha said that the IJT would be inducted once the Kiran, which is currently being used for training purpose, is phased out.
Speaking on the CPSS, Raha said that it was the team work of IAF, Defense Institute of Psychological Research (DIPR) and DRDO to come out with new system which is relevant to test the young pilots inducted into the Air Force.
The new system would be used in all the Air Force Selection Boards in the country to train the pilots, he added.
