Mysuru: Mysuru district police have arrested one Prithvi, a youth from Kesare extension in the city who is allegedly involved in a series of chain snatching incidents and for leading a team of chain snatchers. Prithvi who hails from the city has acted as a hero in a Kannada film .
A high drama preceded the arrest of Prithvi four days ago, when the police picked him up from a bus at D Salhundi village in Mysuru taluk. His family members, who came to know of the police nabbing him created a huge drama.
Prithvi’s mother and other family members descended on the DC’s office and urged the administration to trace out Prithvi who has been picked up by the police. His mother even tried to to immolate herself by pouring petrol on her head seeking her son’s release .
Mysuru police who arrested the film artist produced him before the magistrate who remanded him to judicial custody. Police said Prithvi not only snatched the chains from the single women in parks and on roads in the city, he even led a team of chain snatchers. Police have recovered gold chains worth Rs 1.05 lakh from him.
Prithvi told the police that as he needed money to act in films, he resorted to this easy way of making money. Police said Prithvi is involved in two incidents of chain snatching at Mandya town and an incident at K R Nagar in Mysuru district.
