Mysuru: Home Minister G Parameshwara said on Monday that 6,000 out of the 25,000 vacancies in the police department had been filled. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has given permission to fill all the vacancies, he said.
“Around 6,000 personnel have already been appointed and are undergoing training. Process is on to recruit another 8,000. Besides, a notification will be issued within a week to appoint 8,000 constables and 650 sub-inspectors. The government aims to recruit larger number of women and 20% of the personnel will be women,” he said.
“Another 19,600 posts will be filled this year,” he added.
Parameshwara further said that the police should become people-friendly and respond to people’s problems without any hesitation. He also informed that 35 new police stations will come up in the state, of which five will be women’s police stations.
The minister observed that though the minimum qualification for constable job is PUC, of the 252 constables, except 31, all were degree holders. He said, “It shows that the job of constables is not an ordinary one but with a lot of responsibility”.
