Hunasur : Two wild elephants which have been troubling villages in the vicinity of the Nagarahole National Park area since January 15, Wednesday morning, have caused extensive damage to crops. Meanwhile, two farmers sustained serious injuries when the bullets fired to chase away the elephants to the forests, hit them accidentally.


The injured are Anand, son of Chandregowda of Bharathavadi village and Suresh, son of Swami. If Suresh has sustained bullet injuries in his hand, Anand has been injured in his stomach. Both have been hsifted fto a Mysore hospital for higher treatment.
Forest officials have clarified that both were hurt when the bullets hit them accidentally.
Reports state that a male and a female elephant had destroyed crops in Hindagudgu, Dasanapura, Doddahejjur, Bharatvhavadi and other areas and were camping in Unigatti of Gaddehalla. The elephants had even barged into the sugarcane plantations in Doddahejjur village when forest officials who rushed to the spot, tried to burst fire crackers and fired in the air to chase the elephants.
The elephants which tested the patience of the villagers and the forest officials were finally tired after they sustained bullet injuries. Later they somehow fled to the forest. RFO Rachappa said a police deep has also been damaged during the operation.
