Mysuru: The two-day passport service camp (Seva Shibir) organised jointly by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Regional Passport Office (RPO) was inaugurated by local Member of Legislative Assembly G T Devegowda.
Speaking on the occasion, G T Devegowda said, “It was very common to see people rushing to Bengaluru and Delhi to obtain passports and wait in the queue for their turn for hours and days. Now, with the introduction of passport service camps, people are spared from facing such hardships as passports reach respective homes in quick time. Today, most people need passports for higher education, jobs and visits abroad and city needs a permanent passport Seva Kendra. The demand for passports has increased in recent times and a local service centre will help all those in need of passport and other documentation.”
Assistant Passport Officer Sudhi Choudhury expressed happiness over the public response to service camps started 3 years ago. Last year 350 applicants received the passports out of 400 and said, he said and informed that the verification period had been reduced from 25 days to 13 days.
In the two-day camp, around 400 applications will be cleared after police verification and public can get more details from the website, Choudhury said.
Mayor S L Byrappa, Deputy Commissioner D Randeep, Food and Civil Supplies Department Assistant Director K Rameshwarappa, Zilla Panchaytha President Nayeema Sultana, Vice President Nataraj and Chief Executive Officer Shivashankar were present on the occasion.
