Shivamogga: In an incident, a couple in the Taluk on Wednesday November 9 submitted a memorandum to the President through the Sub-Divisional Officer seeking permission for euthanasia along with family as they could not fulfil the demand of bribe made by the Executive Officer of the Taluk Panchayat.
Srikanth Naik, a resident of Veelasara near Kugve here submitted a memorandum to Assistant Commissioner (AC) Pallavi Sathenahalli alleging that for the past ten months, the EO of the Taluk here has been harassing them for bribe. We have got the land conversion sanctioned by the Planning Commission for our land. The land is valuable because it is near to the City. We are trying to get permission from the Taluk Panchayat to release the site. But the authorities have demanded a bribe of Rs.10 Lakh to release the site, they alleged. Since we are poor landowners, we cannot give a bribe. In their plea, the couple alleged that the Taluk Panchayat officials were misusing their power out of hatred and making them roam around the office citing false reasons to ask for a bribe, which also had come to light in public.
“This is also causing deterioration in our health. Though there is no law that prohibits the release of land allotted, they are wasting their time by giving one legal reason a day out of hatred. We have been roaming around the Deputy Commissioner’s Office for the past three months. The corrupt system has reached a point where life itself seems difficult. Euthanasia is the fate of our family at this stage, stated Shrikant Naik in the memorandum.
