Shivamogga: Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone for the construction of Kalasavalli- Ambaragodlu (Tumari) bridge, which was a demand of several decades from the people living in Sharavati backwater region of Sagara taluk, on February 19, at 12 noon.

This will be added to the records as the 2nd longest bridge of the state, 25th of the country. The 3 km bridge constructed across the river Krishna at Vijayapur district in 2006 is the longest bridge of the state.

The Yeddyurappa government had released the funds for the Tumari bridge in 2009 and it would play a major role in connecting Malnad and coastal Karnataka. This is great news for the people who sacrificed everything for Sharavathi Bridge. It would also boost tourism and economic development in the region. Not only locals, it would help devotees who visit Sigandooru temple.

Specialities:

The length of the bridge is 2.16 km. The circumference is 2 meter and there will be 21 pillars of 40-meter height. On both sides, there will be pedestrian paths of 1.5-metre width. The total cost of the project is Rs.606 crore.
